My point is not that Mint is great (although it is, IMHO) but that as time goes on older hardware just can’t keep up with newer an likely more bloated Windows software, not just the Windows OS but all the software designed to run on Windows, including things like Firefox. I gave up on it and am just running – you guessed it – Mint 19.2. I have another W7 machine from about 20110 (not real sure of the date, actually) that has also become non-functional. I’m currently using the computer as my daily driver by dual booting with Linux Mint 19.2. It’s not at the point of not functioning, but it is what I would now call a slug. I’ve noticed the same behavior deterioration. ![]() I replaced it with a new Win 7 machine in April 2016. Throughout the course of it’s life I added no supplementary software it was basically a stock computer. ![]() By early 2016 it was essentially non functional. ![]() It ran fine until early 2015 when I observed a slow but noticeable slowdown in everything, browsers and all software, boot times, etc. FWIW: I had a Vista machine purchased new in mid 2009.
